September 2 — Two Chinese startups, Astribot and Seer Robotics, are collaborating to deploy over 1,000 humanoid robots in industrial environments within the next two years, signaling a move from pilot programs to widespread commercial deployment.

The partnership aims to utilize each company’s strengths to create humanoid robots suitable for manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, and other industries. This initiative is described as a significant step from technical validation to multi-scenario, large-scale implementation, according to a recent announcement.

The collaboration will encompass research and development, product offerings, sales channels, and after-sales support, according to Astribot’s co-founder. Based in Shenzhen, the company intends to expand into areas such as consumer electronics, automotive, and automation equipment by leveraging Seer’s extensive client network, said Fang Ke.

The humanoid robotics sector in China is accelerating rapidly this year, with startups securing substantial orders. In July, a robotics company announced a CNY 90.5 million ($12.7 million) order from an automotive technology firm — the largest humanoid robot deal in China so far. Additionally, another company secured an order worth tens of millions of yuan to supply nearly 100 robots to a precision manufacturing company last month.

Economically, experts note that humanoid robots are now crossing the threshold for commercialization in logistics operations, according to a recent report. Starting later this year, deployments are expected to shift from demo projects to customer trials. Once these trials demonstrate success, rapid industry growth is anticipated next year.

Founded in 2022, Astribot specializes in developing flexible, intelligent robots. The company employs a unique cable-driven transmission technology that mimics human muscle and tendon movements, allowing robots to perform tasks with human-like dexterity and safety, including material handling and component assembly, the firm stated.

Seer, established in 2020, focuses on robot control systems. Headquartered in Shanghai, the company has already served over 1,500 clients worldwide, including prominent corporations such as Philips, Schneider Electric, Siemens, and FAW-Volkswagen.
