On October 3rd, China’s railways recorded a new single-day high, handling 23.13 million passenger trips as the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday began. This milestone was announced by the country’s designated railway authority on Thursday.
The organization reported that this figure sets a historic record for the busiest travel day. They also projected that approximately 19.3 million trips are expected on Thursday alone, supported by the addition of 1,409 extra trains. The overlap of the Mid-Autumn Festival with National Day this year is anticipated to significantly boost travel activity, driven by increased tourism and family visits.
Across the nation, railway agencies have taken coordinated steps to facilitate safe and smooth travel. These measures include launching smart luggage lockers at stations and boosting power supply checks at key hubs to prevent disruptions.
The Ministry of Transport estimates that during the holiday period, China will see roughly 2.36 billion passenger trips. On average, about 295 million trips are expected daily, representing a 3.2% rise compared to the same timeframe last year.
