In late 2024, OpenAI unveiled its Sora text-to-video generation tool, which expanded into the European market by the end of February this year. The next step for Sora appears to be its integration into the ChatGPT app.
Recent reports from TechCrunch indicate that OpenAI is considering adding this video creation AI to the ChatGPT platform. Until now, users have only accessed the video generator through a web client, and it has been limited to subscribers.
However, users should expect some restrictions with the video generation capabilities in the ChatGPT app compared to the full suite of features available on the dedicated Sora web dashboard. At this point, OpenAI has not provided a specific timeline for when Sora will be incorporated into the ChatGPT experience.

As competition in the AI space heats up, with companies like xAI and DeepSeek emerging, OpenAI appears keen to maintain its position in the market. Integrating Sora into a product that boasts over 400 million weekly active users could be a strategic move to enhance its appeal.
Sora, being one of OpenAI’s flagship offerings, could serve as a valuable asset for ChatGPT users, potentially increasing subscriptions, as access to Sora is currently reserved for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
Moreover, Sora won’t be the only advancement rolling out to ChatGPT in the upcoming months. Recently, OpenAI introduced its latest AI model, named GPT-4.5, which has already begun a limited rollout.

Additionally, just days before the GPT-4.5 announcement, OpenAI’s Deep Research tool began expanding its availability to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature, akin to Google’s Gemini Deep Research tool, provides users with a more agentic and detailed research experience.
Next up is Operator, the company’s premier agentic tool designed to autonomously undertake a variety of tasks for users. The Operator can navigate the web, fill in necessary information, and execute requests without any further input from users.
Currently, Operator is only available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers and began expanding to additional markets earlier this month. OpenAI has also secured partnerships with companies like Uber, Instacart, and DoorDash to transform user requests into actionable tasks through Operator’s capabilities.
