In recent years, Boox has established itself as a notable competitor in a market dominated by Amazon’s Kindles. The company produces both monochrome and color E Ink devices, offering a range of formats, including the phone-like Palma, compact tablets, and ambient-lit slates.
The newest additions from Boox include the Go 7 and the second-generation Go Color 7 tablets. A key highlight of these devices is their stylus compatibility, allowing them to function as digital notebooks built on Android. The enhanced Notes app provides a wealth of features like customizable templates, various brush styles, handwriting recognition, and much more.
What’s on Offer?
While the overall design remains unchanged from the original Color Go 7, Boox has introduced a new model featuring a black-and-white display. This compact tablet is only 6.4mm thick, weighs less than 200 grams, and is equipped with physical page turn buttons alongside its 7-inch display.

One underrated feature is the dedicated microSD card slot available for storage expansion on both the Go 7 and the second-gen Go Color 7 e-readers. Both models also have adjustable front lighting, with the option to turn it off and use ambient light for reading.
The display quality is impressive, offering a sharp 300 PPI pixel density. The Color Go 7 boasts an E Ink Kaleido 3 screen that can render 4,096 colors, while the standard Go 7 features an E Ink Carta 1300 panel.

The Go 7’s monochrome panel can be adjusted to present content against a warm backlight, enhancing the reading experience. This setup provides a paper-like experience reminiscent of the Boox Palma and the sunlit Onyx Boox Go 10.3 tablet.
You Should Pay Attention
Boox provides an extensive array of display customization options, including varying refresh rates, detailed color settings, layout configurations, and an effective built-in OCR system. The software allows for in-depth personalization and quick control access, along with the full Android experience featuring support for the Google Play Store.

I have extensively utilized the original Boox Go Color 7 as a secondary device, leveraging it for monitoring work chats, listening to podcasts, reading books, and even accumulating a large collection of comics. Since I started using it, I haven’t returned to Kindle or any reMarkable device.
The standard Go 7 comes in both white and black, featuring a water-repellent design and a sophisticated textured back. In contrast, the Color Go 7 will be available only in a navy blue-inspired finish.
Boox has announced that the Go 7 is now available for $219.99, featuring 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Color Go 7 is set to launch soon, although a price has yet to be disclosed.
