Black Ops 6 Can’t Compete With These 2 RPGs On Steam

As Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 gears up to become one of the franchise’s most significant launches, two role-playing games are fiercely competing for attention.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare’s latest RPG and the first installment in the Dragon Age series in over ten years, has surpassed Black Ops 6 on Steam just one day after its launch. According to the Steam top sellers list, The Veilguard is currently leading in sales, closely followed by Black Ops 6’s single-player experience, along with the MMORPG Throne and Liberty and the recently launched open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds.

SteamDB reports that The Veilguard has remained the top-selling title globally since its October 31 release. The game peaked at an impressive 170,623 players and currently boasts around 59,000 concurrent users, making it the highest number of players on Steam at this moment. This is a significant milestone for a Dragon Age title; previous entries, especially Inquisition, peaked at around 73,000 players in 2020, and that was before many new EA games were available on Steam.

However, The Veilguard finds itself outpaced by another recent RPG: the open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds. This game is currently the most wish-listed on Steam and has reached nearly 363,000 concurrent players, peaking at a stunning 464,000. Clearly, excitement is building for its full release scheduled for February 28, 2025. Plus, the open beta is accessible to players willing to try their luck.

Meanwhile, multiplayer for Call of Duty continues to thrive on Steam, achieving a peak of 220,759 players and maintaining around 192,000 concurrent users.

On consoles, Black Ops is reportedly breaking records. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that it is the “largest Call of Duty release ever,” setting new highs for day-one players and Game Pass subscriptions. However, neither Activision nor Microsoft has disclosed specific figures. Industry analysts suggest the game is also drawing a significant player base on PlayStation 5.
