The Avengers are back in London as production kicks off for Avengers: Doomsday. The Russo Brothers have taken to social media to tease the film’s iconic antagonist.
“Day One…” the Russo Brothers captioned an Instagram post featuring a chair emblazoned with “Victor Von Doom.” This announcement mirrors the casting reveal for Doomsday, where actors’ names were similarly showcased on chairs. The chair belongs to Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers films.

After their work on 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Downey and the Russo Brothers stepped away from the Marvel universe. In that film, Iron Man’s heroic act of using the Infinity Stones to defeat Thanos ultimately cost him his life.
Following Endgame, the Russo Brothers directed films such as Cherry, The Gray Man, and The Electric State. They also produced Citadel, a global espionage action series for Prime Video. At the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, they announced their exciting return to the MCU.
Like previous Avengers films, Doomsday boasts a star-studded ensemble of heroes and villains. The cast currently includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, and Pedro Pascal.
Significantly, the film will feature characters from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and more. This inclusion pulls fan-favorite characters from the Fox movies into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Notably absent from the cast is Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man. Holland is set to reprise his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slated for release two months after Doomsday. If he doesn’t appear in Doomsday, he is expected to play a key role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
