Imagine the thrill of a Formula One race in the palm of your hand. That’s precisely what Apple has accomplished with an exclusive haptic trailer for F1, the highly anticipated sports drama set to debut later this month.
So, what exactly is a haptic trailer? This innovative experience immerses fans directly into the story alongside Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt. When viewers watch the F1 trailer on an iPhone, the device vibrates in sync with the action on the screen. For instance, as Sonny accelerates down a straight stretch in the trailer, the phone vibrates more intensely, simulating the power and speed of the engine.
According to Apple, each haptic feedback sequence aligns with the film’s beats and rhythms, creating a compelling and engaging experience for the audience.

The F1 haptic trailer can be accessed through the Apple TV app and the App Store. iPhone users simply need iOS 18.4 or higher to enjoy the experience, with no additional downloads or settings required.
In the film, Sonny Hayes (Pitt) is a once-promising driver from the 1990s whose career almost ended following a tragic incident. He was often referred to as “the greatest that never was” due to his untapped potential. Nowadays, Sonny is still racing, but his dreams of F1 success seem out of reach.
Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), Sonny’s former teammate, presents him with a life-altering opportunity. Ruben wants Sonny to return from retirement to drive for his team, Apex Grand Prix (APXGP). He needs an experienced driver to partner with his talented rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). Though Sonny is initially resistant to the idea of mentoring, he reluctantly agrees to make a comeback for one final chance at redemption.
Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia also appear in the film.
Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski helms F1, working from a screenplay written by Ehren Kruger based on a story they co-created.
Catch F1 in theaters and IMAX on June 27.
