Amazon MGM Studios is carefully taking its time developing a new James Bond film. Although they now have creative control over the iconic franchise, they haven’t rushed to recast the role last played by Daniel Craig. During this extended break, there’s been a lot of speculation about who might step into the legendary spy’s shoes.
That talk has even crossed the Atlantic, leading to questions about whether Glen Powell might become the first American to portray James Bond. Powell, who has become one of Hollywood’s top stars, is not interested in taking on the role.
“I’m a Texan. A Texan shouldn’t play James Bond,” Powell shared. “My family and I joke about it. I could play Jimmy Bond, but I shouldn’t be the one in the tuxedo. It’s more fitting for an authentic Brit to take on that part—that’s who belongs in that role.”
Powell’s stance—that Bond should always be played by a British actor—might bring relief to many viewers who were uncertain about the franchise’s future direction. Even with Powell’s rising popularity in Hollywood, there are no signs that Amazon will consider American actors for the iconic secret agent. The tradition of casting a Brit as Bond remains strong, and it seems unlikely that will change anytime soon.
