Early Saturday morning, a vehicle struck a crowd outside a nightclub on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, resulting in injuries to more than 30 individuals, according to reports from local media and the city’s fire department.
Of those injured, at least seven people are in critical condition, while six others sustained serious injuries, as stated in an online announcement from the fire department.
Reuters was unable to reach representatives of the city’s police department immediately.
The incident took place just before 2 AM local time (0900 GMT), as reported by the fire department.
Captain Adam VanGerpen, a spokesperson for the fire department, shared with ABC News that a paramedic tending to one of the injured discovered a gunshot wound. However, he could not verify reports suggesting that the driver of the vehicle was involved in the shooting.
Initial investigations indicate that the driver may have lost consciousness and crashed into the crowd outside the nightclub. This detail has yet to be confirmed.
According to Captain VanGerpen, the vehicle first collided with a taco truck situated outside the venue before plowing through a valet stand and crashing into a large group of people.
Footage shared on X revealed sealed-off streets and patients being transported by ambulance.
Officials have not provided immediate information regarding the cause of the crash or the identity of the driver.
The location of the incident is near notable Hollywood landmarks such as Sunset Boulevard and the Walk of Fame, a sidewalk adorned with stars honoring figures from the entertainment industry.
