Members of an extremist group in India staged a protest outside an American fast-food restaurant in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram district. They demanded that the establishment refrain from serving non-vegetarian food during the Kanwar Yatra.
The protesters, affiliated with the Hindu Raksha Dal (HRD), chanted religious slogans such as “Jai Shree Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev.” They compelled the restaurant to close its doors and insisted on a vegetarian-only menu for the month of Shravan, according to the Times of India.
Videos circulating on social media depicted HRD members pulling down the restaurant’s shutters while chanting slogans, pushing staff to either halt operations or switch to vegetarian offerings during this religious time.
Pinky Chaudhary, the leader of the group, expressed, “Our message is straightforward. We are urging all non-vegetarian food establishments to stop serving such food throughout the Kanwar Yatra. For those wishing to stay open, vegetarian options are the only acceptable choice.”
In reaction to the protest, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans-Hindon) Nimish Patil confirmed that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was activated in the area, highlighting that the protesters breached public order.
A suo motu FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against ten unidentified individuals under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rejecting directives from a public official. Authorities are currently in the process of identifying those involved.
