DALLAS, TX: The 48th Annual Convention of APPNA (Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America) wrapped up in grand style, marking a memorable occasion for the prominent organization representing Pakistani-American doctors.
This lively four-day event gathered over 4,000 doctors from the US, Canada, Pakistan, and beyond, along with their families, community leaders, experts, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and local politicians.
The convention kicked off with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthems of Pakistan, the US, and Canada. APPNA President Dr. Humaira Qamar and Secretary Sanaullah showcased the organization’s achievements over the past year, underscoring the event’s goals and vision.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of academic, charitable, cultural, and entertainment programs. These included Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions, scientific lectures, professional workshops for physicians, services tailored for women, exhibitions by well-known Pakistani brands, workshops focused on youth leadership, debates, matchmaking events, and patriotic as well as social programs like “I Love Pakistan” and “SAYA.”
During the event, special awards were conferred upon Dr. Abdul Bari, founder of Indus Hospital, and Dr. Adeeb Rizvi, head of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), in recognition of their exceptional contributions to healthcare and social services in Pakistan.
At the main gala, oil magnate Syed Javed Anwar lauded APPNA’s philanthropic efforts and announced a striking donation of $300,000 to support its charitable initiatives. He characterized APPNA as a prime example of Pakistani physicians globally, dedicated not only to the practice of medicine but also to humanitarian causes.
The cultural centerpiece of the convention featured captivating performances by star Pakistani artists such as Atif Aslam, Ahmed Jahanzeb, Arif Lohar, and Sanam Marvi, all of whom mesmerized the audience with their music. Attendees were treated to traditional fare, cultural displays, and an exquisite fashion show highlighting the latest designs from top Pakistani designers, turning the convention into a vibrant and unforgettable event.
Dr. Naeem Tahir Khaili, a senior APPNA leader, played a pivotal role in organizing the cultural and entertainment segments, greatly enhancing the convention’s success.
Dr. Khurram Siddiqui, a prominent member of APPNA’s committee for aiding incoming Pakistani physicians, shared that over 1,000 doctors from Pakistan had successfully obtained their US visas and are poised to begin medical residencies in hospitals across the country. He remarked that APPNA continues to offer ongoing support to these doctors, marking a significant achievement for the younger generation of Pakistani physicians.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, attended the convention and addressed attendees about the importance of bilateral healthcare cooperation and the crucial role played by the Pakistani-American community. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the diaspora and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to support them.
Notable attendees included oil tycoon Syed Javed Anwar, prominent Democratic Party member and businessman Tahir Javed, mayors from various US cities, community leaders, professionals, and media representatives.
The APPNA 2025 convention served as a hub of medicine, research, and philanthropy, while also reflecting Pakistani culture and community unity.
