Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly sustained minor injuries to his leg during an Israeli missile strike last month. This attack was aimed at a meeting of the Supreme National Security Council, as reported by the Fars News Agency on Saturday, with further information from Anadolu Agency.
The incident occurred on June 17 while several high-ranking Iranian officials, including leaders from the three branches of government, were convened in a fortified underground area of a building in western Tehran.
According to Fars, six missiles hit the entrance and exit points of the building, similar to techniques used in a prior assassination attempt on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Officials managed to escape via a designated emergency exit, with reports indicating that Pezeshkian was injured during the evacuation but ultimately made it out safely.
The report also noted that Iranian officials suspect there may have been an internal leak, given the precision of the missile strike.
Fars criticized Western and Israeli-affiliated media for overlooking what they termed a “clear act of state terrorism,” while condemning Iranian leaders’ religious decrees against figures such as former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A 12-day armed conflict erupted between Israel and Iran on June 13 after Israel conducted airstrikes against various Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian targets, resulting in a reported 606 fatalities and over 5,300 injuries, according to Iran’s Health Ministry.
In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone strikes against Israel, leading to at least 29 deaths and over 3,400 injuries, according to figures from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The hostilities concluded with a ceasefire brokered by the United States, which took effect on June 24.
