Mikhail Bogdanov Resigns as Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister
Mikhail Bogdanov, a seasoned diplomat in Russia and a long-time adviser to President Vladimir Putin, has resigned from his position as deputy foreign minister, according to the nation’s news agency.
At 74 years old, Bogdanov, who also held the title of Putin’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, stepped down at his own request, reportedly due to personal reasons, as a source indicated.
His resignation was officially acknowledged in a decree issued by the Kremlin on Wednesday.
Bogdanov completed his studies at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1974, during the Soviet era, and quickly began a distinguished diplomatic career that took him to various capitals worldwide. He served as Russia’s ambassador to Israel from 1997 to 2002 and then to Egypt from 2005 to 2011.
Under Putin’s leadership, Bogdanov worked as the special presidential representative for the Middle East starting in 2012 and took on the role of special representative for Africa in 2014.
