A recent leak suggests that Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, set for release this September, may come with the biggest battery ever seen in an iPhone, according to Forbes.
The information comes from a Weibo user named Instant Digital. Though this source has a mixed track record for reliability, it still holds significant weight in the realm of Apple rumors.
It is rumored that the battery for the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be around 5,000mAh, surpassing the current iPhone 16 Pro Max’s battery capacity of 4,676mAh.
This speculation is in line with earlier reports indicating that the new model might be thicker, potentially measuring 8.725mm, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 8.25mm, which could allow for the larger battery.
9to5Mac points out that if the final battery capacity approaches 5,000mAh, it would represent nearly a 10% increase. However, they emphasize that a bigger battery doesn’t always translate to longer battery life.
MacRumors noted steady improvements in battery life across recent iPhone models, citing Apple’s claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max can last for 33 hours, an increase from 29 hours on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. With the anticipated upgrade, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could potentially provide up to 35 hours of battery usage, or even more.
Yet, Apple Insider‘s William Gallagher advised caution, highlighting that battery performance is also influenced by the device’s overall design. While new features like vapor chamber cooling may not directly impact battery use, other updates could, potentially offsetting benefits from increased battery capacity.
As features evolve, longer battery life remains a crucial request from consumers, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max may finally fulfill that demand.
