An Iranian boy, just a year and a half old, is currently in a coma, fighting for his life after being brutally attacked by a man at a Moscow-area airport. This incident has stirred global outrage, especially after video footage surfaced on social media.
The child sustained serious skull fractures and spinal injuries when a man picked him up and forcefully threw him to the ground in the arrivals area.
This shocking event, captured on security cameras and later broadcasted by the Russian news agency Mash, unfolded shortly after the boy and his mother arrived in the country.
Witnesses reported that the assailant scanned the area before seizing the child, who was standing next to a small suitcase, and then violently throwing him down. The attack occurred while the boy’s mother had briefly stepped away to fetch a stroller, according to the Sun.
The suspect, identified as Vladimir Vitkov, is a 31-year-old man from Belarus. Reports indicate that the victim’s family had recently fled Iran, having traveled through Afghanistan to escape the ongoing US-Israel bombing campaigns.
Law enforcement is currently investigating whether the motivation behind the attack was racial or driven by other factors.
Vitkov had also recently arrived in Russia, reportedly from Egypt. Police suspect he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack, as tests revealed traces of cannabis in his bloodstream.
Ksenia Mishonova, the Children’s Ombudswoman for the Moscow Region, expressed her strong disapproval of the incident. “A drugged individual violently attacked a toddler upon his arrival and threw him to the ground with all his force… This is almost unbearable,” Mishonova stated. “I hope that the assailant faces the fullest extent of the law. May the parents find the strength to endure this.”
Authorities revealed that Vitkov was unable to provide a coherent explanation for his actions. When asked about a prior criminal record, he allegedly replied, “I’ve made mistakes like that.” Reports also surfaced revealing that Vitkov has a daughter who is the same age as the boy he assaulted. He is now in custody and facing charges of attempted murder.
