On Sunday, New Delhi’s counter-terrorism agency announced the arrest of two individuals in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for allegedly providing shelter to gunmen involved in a violent attack on civilians that ignited a protracted confrontation between Pakistan and India.
India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) reported that the suspects hailed from the Pahalgam region, the site of a brutal attack in which 26 individuals were killed just two months prior.
The NIA stated, "The two men supplied food, accommodation, and logistical support to the terrorists, who specifically targeted tourists based on their religious affiliation."
The suspects were identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, who reportedly have revealed the identities of three armed terrorists implicated in the attack.
India has accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack without disclosing any supporting evidence, a charge that Islamabad has firmly denied.
The killings on April 22 resulted in reciprocal diplomatic actions from both nuclear-armed nations, leading to intense exchanges of artillery, drone, and missile fire.
The ensuing four-day conflict claimed the lives of over 70 people on both sides.
Following the Pahalgam incident, where 26 tourists lost their lives, both Islamabad and New Delhi engaged in cross-border assaults. New Delhi launched airstrikes into Pakistan, prompting a response known as Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
A ceasefire was eventually reached on May 10, after more than 87 hours of conflict, facilitated by the United States.
