TEHRAN: A 5.1-magnitude earthquake rattled northern Iran on Friday, coinciding with ongoing Israeli airstrikes in the region. Fortunately, local officials reported no injuries and only slight damage.
The official news outlet, IRNA, indicated that there were no fatalities and described the damage as "minimal."
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (approximately 6 miles), roughly 37 kilometers (23 miles) southwest of Semnan city.
State television initially reported the quake as measuring 5.5 and noted that it "shook the vicinity of Sorkheh in Semnan province."
The tremor was also felt in Tehran, which is located about 150 kilometers (90 miles) from Sorkheh.
