Khaby Lame, a highly recognized social media star, faced a brief detention during his recent trip to the United States, causing concern among his followers.
The TikTok sensation allegedly overstayed his visa upon arriving in the U.S. on April 30 for the Met Gala in New York City last month and was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Las Vegas.
Fortunately, he left the country later without receiving a deportation order.
Lame, whose full name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was apprehended last Friday at Harry Reid International Airport. An ICE representative confirmed that he was allowed to leave voluntarily, thus avoiding a deportation order that could have affected his immigration record, as reported by Euro News.
A deportation order could have potentially barred him from re-entering the U.S. for up to ten years.
The 25-year-old influencer’s detention occurred against the backdrop of heightened immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump, which has sparked protests against ICE, particularly in light of recent actions in Los Angeles.
Lame rose to worldwide fame through his unique TikTok content, which features him humorously reacting to overly complicated “life hacks” without any dialogue. He has amassed more than 162 million followers on the platform.
