WhatsApp is developing a new optional feature that will enable users to reshare and forward status updates, set to be included in an upcoming release.
This feature will allow users to decide if their status updates can be shared by others or scheduled for future sharing, as reported by WABetaInfo.
At present, the only way to share a status update is if a user is directly mentioned by a contact, which permits the sharing of that particular update. There’s no existing option to reshare regular status updates unless a user is mentioned directly.
Once implemented, a tooltip will appear when users attempt to share a status update, notifying them that they have the option to permit or deny others from resharing their statuses.
A specific toggle will provide users with complete control over this option, although it will be turned off by default, ensuring that user privacy is prioritized from the start.
Other users will only be able to reshare a status update if the original user has explicitly enabled this sharing feature.
When a contact shares someone else’s status update, the resharing process will be fully private, as WhatsApp has designed the function to safeguard sensitive information at all times.
Notably, the phone number of the person who posted the original status will never be visible to anyone viewing or receiving the reshared content.
This privacy protocol remains in effect, regardless of how many times a status update is reshared.
The new feature is currently in development and will be available in a future update.
