NANTES: On Thursday, a 15-year-old male student fatally stabbed a classmate and injured three others during a violent episode at a high school in Nantes, France, according to police. The assailant was restrained by teachers before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
BFM TV reported that the deceased victim was a girl, while the three injured students were boys, though police have not yet confirmed the age or gender of the victims.
A representative from the police department stated that the teaching staff managed to subdue the attacker at the private Catholic institution, Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides.
No indications of a terrorist motive have been found, according to authorities.
After the attack, students were kept inside the school for their safety but were eventually allowed to leave in the afternoon accompanied by police. Numerous parents gathered outside, eagerly awaiting their children.
“We are anxious to embrace them and help them cope with the stress this incident has caused,” expressed Nicolas, a concerned parent at the school.
Authorities have yet to disclose the name of the suspect or the motive behind this act of violence.
Local newspaper Ouest France noted that the assailant was clad in black and wore a helmet and balaclava. Two knives were discovered adjacent to his belongings.
