NEW YORK: A helicopter went down in the Hudson River near lower Manhattan on Thursday afternoon, according to the New York City Police Department.
ABC News reported that there have been fatalities, citing information from law enforcement sources.
A spokesperson for the New York City Police indicated that rescue operations were underway with police boats actively assisting in the lake, but no immediate information was available regarding the number of people aboard. CNN stated that at least three individuals had been rescued.
The Federal Aviation Administration has not yet released a statement, while the National Transportation Safety Board announced that it is currently collecting details about the incident.
Footage from the scene showed multiple emergency and police vessels surrounding an area of the river where the helicopter is submerged.
The incident occurred in the water just off the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan. Police advised local residents to anticipate emergency vehicles and traffic disruptions in the vicinity.
