WhatsApp is currently experimenting with a new feature that will notify all users in a chat whenever someone turns on or off the app’s advanced chat privacy setting, which is set to be introduced in a future update.
This means that when a participant in either an individual or group chat changes their privacy setting status, everyone in the conversation will receive a notification, according to WABetaInfo.
For instance, if a user decides to turn off the advanced chat privacy feature, a notification will appear in the chat to inform others of this change.
This new feature from the widely-used Meta-owned messaging application promotes transparency, as all members will know that the chat’s privacy settings have reverted to the default options. Users will then have the choice to save media automatically to their device galleries.
On the other hand, if the feature is enabled, it will prevent any participant from automatically saving media to their device’s gallery, adding an additional layer of privacy to their conversations.
Moreover, turning on this feature will also block the ability to export the entire chat history. Anyone trying to export the chat will encounter an error message, thereby protecting the content of the chat.
Conversely, disabling this new feature will restore the ability to export chat history, and this will be communicated to everyone in the chat through a notification.
The notification feature regarding changes to the advanced chat privacy settings is still in development.
