- Karoline Leavitt states, “The U.S. should impose tariffs as well.”
On Monday, the White House issued a warning to countries it considers to be conducting “unfair” trade practices against the United States, indicating that they may soon face tariffs.
During a press briefing, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced that President Donald Trump is expected to reveal his tariff strategy on Wednesday.
“Any nation that has treated American citizens unjustly should prepare for a tariff in response come Wednesday,” Leavitt remarked, highlighting the Trump administration’s dedication to ensuring equitable trade practices.
While she refrained from providing additional specifics, Leavitt mentioned that the upcoming media event, which will feature key members of the U.S. Cabinet, aims to clarify the administration’s plans regarding perceived trade imbalances.
Leavitt underscored that these tariffs are intended to safeguard American jobs and take a stand against economic practices that disadvantage the U.S.
“Wednesday will mark a new Independence Day for America,” she stated. “President Trump is taking these steps for the welfare of American workers.”
Emphasizing the administration’s focus on domestic economic interests, Leavitt also remarked that excessive tariffs imposed by other nations are unfair to American citizens and that the U.S. should reciprocate accordingly.
When asked about possible exemptions for specific industries, such as agriculture, she replied, “Currently, there are no exemptions available.”
Additionally, Leavitt mentioned the potential for “alternative tariffs” to be introduced, suggesting some flexibility in the administration’s strategy.
