Kenya and Nigeria are notable for their high prayer engagement levels, with 84% of their populations participating daily. Kenya’s 47.4 million residents include a majority practicing Christianity and traditional African religions, both of which emphasize prayer. Nigeria’s massive population of nearly 196 million sees around 84% actively praying, reflecting its deeply religious culture rooted in Christianity and Islam. These nations exemplify Africa’s strong spiritual continuity and faith-based lifestyles.

Southeast Asia’s Devout Followers: Malaysia and the Philippines

Malaysia and the Philippines showcase significant prayer engagement, with 80% and 79% respectively. Malaysia’s 28.5 million population often incorporates prayer into daily life, influenced by Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity. Meanwhile, the Philippines, with 91.5 million residents, maintains deep Catholic roots, with nearly four out of five individuals engaging in daily prayer routines. These cultures demonstrate how religion remains a pillar of societal cohesion in Southeast Asia.

While some Western nations have lower overall percentages, their prayer populations are still significant in absolute numbers. The United States boasts approximately 149.6 million people who pray daily, constituting 44% of its population. Similarly, Mexico has about 57.6 million daily priers, about 44% of its people. These figures showcase the enduring influence of faith across North America despite cultural shifts towards secularism.

Minorities and Smaller Nations with High Prayer Engagement

Countries such as Greece (37%), Italy (35%), and Israel (34%) show elevated levels of daily prayer, reflected in religious traditions like Christianity, Catholicism, and Judaism. These nations highlight the importance of spiritual practice within historically religious societies, maintaining traditions through generations.

Asia’s Varied Prayer Culture

In Asia, countries like South Korea (25%) and Japan (21%) show modest prayer participation, though their absolute numbers are quite community-specific. Thailand and Canada both have lower percentages — 31% and 30% respectively — indicating a mix of religious devotion and secular lifestyles. Interestingly, South Korea’s 13 million daily priers underscore the country’s significant Christian movement.

Europe and Oceania: Moderate Prayer Engagements

European countries like Spain (22%) and France (18%) display moderate levels of prayer engagement amid diverse secular trends. Australia and Germany, both with 16%, reflect similar engagement levels, representing shifting attitudes toward religious practice in these regions.
