Top 50 Countries with the Highest Per Capita Plastic Surgery Rates in 2025

South Korea Continues to Lead Worldwide in Cosmetic Procedures

South Korea remains the global frontrunner in plastic surgeries per capita, with an average of 8.9 procedures per 1,000 residents. The country’s beauty industry, heavily influenced by K-pop culture and stringent beauty standards, fuels a high demand for elective cosmetic enhancements. South Korea’s influence extends beyond borders, with many foreign visitors traveling there for procedures like double eyelid surgery and jawline contouring.

Latin America’s High Engagement in Cosmetic Treatments

Argentina and Brazil closely follow South Korea, with Argentineans averaging 8.81 procedures and Brazilians at 7.62 per 1,000 residents. Both nations showcase a cultural embrace of cosmetic enhancements, driven by societal pressures and cosmetic industry growth. These countries also have a thriving wellness tourism sector, with many seeking affordable yet high-quality cosmetic procedures.

North America Shows Steady Demand for Cosmetic Surgeries

The United States ranks seventh globally, performing approximately 5.91 procedures per 1,000 people. While not as high as Asian or Latin American countries, the US’s sizable population and advanced medical infrastructure contribute to its strong cosmetic surgery market. American celebrities and media outlets continue to influence beauty standards, driving demand for procedures like liposuction, rhinoplasty, and facelifts.

European Countries Valuing Aesthetic Refinement

European nations such as Greece, Italy, and Spain feature prominently among the top 15 countries. Greece has a rate of 6.33 per 1,000, while Italy and Spain see around 4.79 and 4.62 respectively. European aesthetic preferences often emphasize natural looks and age-defying treatments, supported by a growing number of specialized clinics across the continent.

Rising Popularity in Asia and the Middle East

Japan, Thailand, and Singapore are leading Asian nations in cosmetic procedures. Japan has 2.13 procedures per 1,000, while Thailand and Singapore fall just below 1.5. The Middle East, particularly Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, demonstrates significant engagement in cosmetic procedures, often driven by cultural emphasis on beauty, luxury, and social status.

Small Countries and City-States with High Per Capita Rates

Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Ireland boast some of the highest rates on a per capita basis, exceeding 1.1 procedures per 1,000 residents. These regions often have affluent populations with access to premium aesthetic services, signaling a trend where wealth correlates with higher cosmetic surgery adoption.

Emerging Trends and Future Outlook

While traditional leaders like South Korea and the US remain dominant, emerging markets such as the Philippines, Venezuela, and Tanzania are witnessing increasing interest in cosmetic procedures. Advances in minimally invasive techniques, decreasing costs, and shifting beauty ideals are expected to further influence this landscape in 2025.

Considerations and Cultural Perspectives

It’s important to recognize that attitudes toward cosmetic surgery vary globally, influenced by cultural standards, societal pressures, and healthcare accessibility. The decision to undergo procedures is deeply personal and often shaped by a combination of individual desires and societal influences.
