Upgrading your laptop’s memory can significantly improve its performance, especially if you’re looking to enhance multitasking or run more demanding applications. If you own a notebook that supports 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, you’re in luck! Here’s a straightforward guide on how to upgrade your laptop’s RAM, along with recommendations for compatible memory.

First, confirm that your notebook can indeed support 16 GB of RAM (2 x 8 GB DDR3L-1600). If it does, you’re ready to move on to the next steps.

1. Choose the Right Memory:
To upgrade to 16 GB, you’ll need to purchase a compatible 8 GB memory chip. One recommended option is the Timetec MTXtec RAM module, which is DDR3L at 1600 MHz. This type of memory is non-ECC and unbuffered, making it ideal for most laptop requirements. You can find it here.

2. Check Your Current Memory Configuration:
If your laptop is already equipped with 1 x 8 GB of memory, all you need to do is buy one additional 8 GB chip. If you’re unsure about the current configuration, you can find the information in your system settings or BIOS.

3. Prepare for Installation:
Before you begin installing the new RAM, make sure to turn off your laptop and unplug it. Also, remove the battery if it’s detachable. Gather the necessary tools, usually just a Phillips screwdriver.

4. Install the New RAM:

  1. Open the back panel of your laptop where the memory slots are located; refer to your user manual for guidance. You can access the manual for the HP ProBook series here.
  2. Locate the existing RAM module. If you’re adding a new one, find the empty slot.
  3. Align the notches of the new RAM with the slot and gently push it in at a slight angle. Once seated, push it down until it clicks into place.
  4. If you’re replacing an existing memory module, carefully release it by pushing the clips on the sides and remove it before inserting the new one.

5. Reassemble and Test:
Once the RAM is installed, reattach the back panel and battery. Power on your laptop and check the system properties to ensure that the new memory is recognized.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully upgrade your laptop’s memory, providing a nice boost in performance for multitasking and demanding applications. Enjoy a faster and more efficient computing experience!
