If you’re currently using an Azure Sponsorship subscription, you’ll notice it comes with a set amount of credits that are used up as you work. Once these credits are exhausted, you’ll be automatically shifted back to a Pay-As-You-Go plan. This setup makes managing costs a bit tricky, especially when the default Cost Management tools seem to stop working.

Many users find that the usual Cost Management dashboard no longer displays detailed cost data. Instead, it might show a message like “Cost Management not supported for this account type,” with the subscription name grayed out. This can be frustrating because it limits your ability to see where your credits are going.

So, how can you keep track of your costs, especially broken down by each Resource Group? The built-in options under the Azure Sponsorship overview are limited. Usually, only the Subscription Owner can see detailed cost stats, and even then, it only breaks costs down by service, not by Resource Group. This makes identifying which Resource Group is using more credits than expected quite difficult.

Thankfully, there’s a workaround. You can manually track resource costs by regularly exporting your billing data or using Azure Cost Management + Billing tools that are compatible with most subscription types. Setting up cost alerts can help too—these notify you if a certain Resource Group or service exceeds a predefined cost threshold, warning you early if excessive credit consumption happens.

Another useful steps include enabling cost analysis in the Azure portal and customizing the view to include tags or filters for your Resource Groups. This way, you can see costs more accurately, even if the default dashboard doesn’t support detailed breakdowns for Sponsorship subscriptions.

In summary, while the automatic Cost Management feature may be limited for Azure Sponsorship plans, you can still keep tabs on your usage by setting up manual reports, alerts, and filtering tools. Consistent monitoring will help you avoid surprises and manage your remaining credits more effectively.
