I’ve transformed both my front and back yards into smart home havens. However, I face a challenge: each location has just one weatherproof duplex outlet, which is insufficient for all the smart devices I want to connect. Inside my home, I use several multi-outlet surge protectors to power smart plugs, speakers, and my router, but I can’t implement a similar setup outdoors without proper weather protection.
This is where the $18 Iwillink Outdoor Electrical Box becomes essential. With dimensions of 12.6 x 8.6 x 5.1 inches (LxWxD), it comfortably fits two medium-sized power strips, or just one if you’re like me and using larger wall warts. It boasts an IP54 weatherproof rating, meaning it’s designed to guard against particles like dirt and dust, as well as water splashed from all angles, according to industry standards.
Notches with cable guides and silicone seals allow cords to enter the box. There are four on the front and two on each end.

While the manufacturer advises against placing the box in water or burying it underground, I’ve had success using mulch to camouflage similar products without issues.
Compared to the SockitBox ($30), which I also use, I prefer the latches on the Iwillink box. It features four plastic clamp latches—one centered on each side—that secure the lid tightly, whereas the SockitBox has only one latch on each end. However, I’ve also not encountered water entry issues with the SockitBox.

Four latches effectively seal the lid, ensuring cables are sandwiched between top and bottom silicone seals.

The notches include cable guides, and silicone seals on both the lid and bottom of the box create a barrier against water. While the seals aren’t completely flawless, they sufficiently protect against rain and sprinkler spray.
In my setup, I use the Iwillink box for a 3-outlet extension cord. One outlet powers a Kasa Smart EP25 plug controlling a small water feature, while another powers the wall wart for my Eufy Outdoor Pathway Lights. Unfortunately, the size of these two devices blocks the third outlet on the extension cord.

The box accommodates two medium-sized outlet strips or one if you’re using larger plugs, like with the 3-outlet extension cord I have inside.

There are numerous weatherproof electrical boxes available in various sizes to meet different needs. For instance, my larger SockitBox supplies power to my Wi-Fi-enabled Traeger Timberline 850 smoker, Enbrighten smart café lights, another set of Eufy path lights, and four Philips Hue Lily landscape spotlights.
If your requirement is simpler and involves plugging in just a small smart plug or wall wart, the $13 Flemoon Outdoor Electrical Box could be an ideal fit.
