If you’ve recently updated to the latest Apple software, you might have noticed a new feature called Liquid Glass. It’s a fresh, elegant design style that Apple introduced across iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, TVOS, and MacOS. This new look emphasizes content and makes your device feel more lively, all while keeping that familiar Apple feel. Some people, including myself, really love how it looks and feels, while others might be less enthusiastic about change altogether.

So, what exactly is Liquid Glass? Apple describes it as their most comprehensive software design update ever. It’s designed to look like a flexible, glass-like material that changes depending on your content or what you’re doing. It adds a fluid, dynamic effect that’s meant to make your interactions more fun and even a bit magical. Imagine a surface that looks sleek and transparent, yet reacts and shifts just like liquid glass — that’s the essence of this feature.

If you’re curious to see what Liquid Glass looks like and how it works, you can check out more details and sample visuals on Apple’s official website here: Apple introduces a delightful and elegant new software design.

Now, I know some users love it, while others dislike it or prefer not to have it at all. However, it’s important to understand that you can’t simply turn Liquid Glass on or off with a switch. The effect is deeply embedded into the operating system itself, built into the core code for each device — whether it’s an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple TV. This isn’t something you can disable easily because it affects the very foundation of your device’s software.

Also, third-party app developers have been working on making their apps compatible with Liquid Glass using an integrated protocol. Expecting a straightforward toggle switch isn’t realistic right now, but don’t worry — you do have some control over how it displays.

Here are some simple ways to customize the look and behavior of Liquid Glass:

Lock Screen Customization:

  • Tap and hold on your lock screen, then select “Customize.”
  • You can enlarge the clock by pulling its corner.
  • Tap the clock to choose between “Solid” or “Glass” styles.
  • Add widgets by tapping the “+” icon.
  • Change the spatial effect by tapping the octagon icon above the camera shortcut.

Home Screen Adjustments:

  • Tap and hold on your home screen, then tap “Edit” at the top left.
  • Select “Customize” from the menu.
  • Use the bar at the bottom to choose different visual styles: Default, Dark, Clear, or Tinted.
  • As you switch between these options, you’ll see exactly how your icons and background will look.

Changing the Effect Intensity:

  • Open your Settings app.
  • Navigate to Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
  • Turn on or off options like “Reduce Transparency” and “Increase Contrast.”
    • Turning these on will minimize Liquid Glass effects, making your screen more plain.
    • Turning them off will enhance the glass-like effects with more transparency and vibrancy.

Controlling Visual Motion:

  • Still in Settings > Accessibility, go to “Motion.”
  • Turn on “Reduce Motion” to cut back on animations, which can be helpful if you have visual sensitivities or prefer a calmer interface.

While you can’t completely disable Liquid Glass, these settings give you some control over how much of it you see. It’s also worth mentioning that animation effects may be tricky for users with visual impairments; using “Reduce Motion” helps make your device easier to navigate.

If you’re frustrated with this new design, keep in mind that it’s a part of how Apple wants to evolve their systems. They don’t provide an on/off switch for Liquid Glass, but they do listen to user feedback. If you have suggestions or concerns, you can send feedback directly to Apple here: Product Feedback – Apple.

In the end, I believe Apple will refine and improve Liquid Glass with future updates. For now, try to see it as an intriguing new look — one that can make your device experience more vibrant and enjoyable once you get used to it. Embracing change can sometimes surprise you with how much you end up appreciating it.
