If you use Siri regularly, you might have noticed it sometimes asks whether it should search the web or use ChatGPT for more complex questions. For instance, asking how to connect OnePlus AirPods to a Mac might prompt Siri to say, “Here’s what I found on the web,” and then it shows you search results. However, when you ask about connecting OnePlus Nord Buds 2R to a MacBook Air M2, Siri might ask, “Would you like to use ChatGPT to answer that?” It then prepares an answer and presents two options as buttons: “Search the web” or “Use ChatGPT.”

When you say, “Search the web,” Siri opens Google in your browser. If you choose “Use ChatGPT,” it might respond with, “ChatGPT isn’t available right now.” If you’re like me and prefer not to press buttons while talking to Siri, this can be frustrating. I’ve turned off the confirmation for ChatGPT requests, so Siri doesn’t ask me every time, but I wish it would automatically decide the best option depending on the question or tell me which method to use without needing to click.

What I really want is for Siri to automatically pick between searching the web or using ChatGPT based on the query—using whichever is available or most suitable. It would also be helpful if I could simply say, “Search the web” or “Use ChatGPT,” and Siri would respect my command directly without needing to tap buttons.

To achieve this, you can try customizing your Siri shortcuts or adjusting settings for better control, but currently, there isn’t a perfect built-in way to fully automate this choice based on query type. For now, your best bet is to use straightforward commands like “Search the web for…” or “Use ChatGPT to answer…” and speak clearly. Hopefully, future updates will improve this integration so Siri can handle complex queries even more smoothly, choosing the best tool automatically.
