When I upgraded to Sequoia on my M1 Mac Mini, I decided to turn off Apple Intelligence Beta. I’d heard many concerns about its high resource usage, and as a writer, I wanted to manage my computer’s performance closely. Although I’m open to using AI tools for tasks like editing and rewriting, I believe that the creative process should stay personal and unique. Plus, it’s important to note that stories generated by AI can’t be copyrighted or trademarked.

I have an M1 Mac Mini with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and I’m curious to hear from others in the community. Are you using Apple Intelligence? What are your thoughts? I still see the Beta icon in version 15.5, which makes me hesitant to dive in until it’s fully released.

If you’re in a similar situation, here are some steps you could take to evaluate your use of AI tools:

  1. Assess Your Needs: Think about how you plan to use AI in your writing. Is it for editing, brainstorming, or something else? Understanding your needs can help guide your decision.

  2. Monitor Performance: Keep an eye on your Mac’s performance when using AI tools. If you notice significant slowdowns, it might be worth turning the tool off until updates are made.

  3. Engage with the Community: Join forums or groups where fellow users discuss their experiences with Apple Intelligence. Their insights can be invaluable.

  4. Be Cautious with Beta Features: Beta versions can be unstable, so weigh the benefits against the potential for issues. You might choose to wait for the full release.

  5. Explore Alternatives: If you’re hesitant about Apple Intelligence, consider other AI tools that may offer similar functionalities without the beta risks.

By taking these steps, you can better navigate the world of AI in your writing while keeping your creative process intact. Happy writing!
