If you regularly use a specific set of applications each day or every time you boot up your computer, consider setting them to launch automatically at startup.

This approach can save you a considerable amount of time by eliminating the need to open each app manually. For example, I prefer my Slack client to start automatically so I don’t have to open it manually every time. You can apply this same method to any application you’d like to have launch at startup. See the instructions below.

Steps to Achieve This:

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type SHELL:STARTUP and hit Enter. An empty folder will appear on your screen.
  • Drag the icons of the apps you wish to start automatically into this folder, then close it.

After completing these steps, the selected applications will launch automatically each time your computer starts. Feel free to repeat this process for any additional apps you’d like to include in your startup routine.

This concludes today’s Quick Tip. To get more helpful tips like this directly in your inbox each week, consider subscribing to the PCWorld Try This newsletter. You might also enjoy signing up for The Full Nerd newsletter to stay updated on our Full Nerd Podcast and other exclusive content.
