If you’ve recently bought a used HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT with an i7 9700 processor, you might be interested in expanding its storage. Here’s a simple guide to adding a 2.5-inch SSD to your desktop.

First, take a look inside your computer. When you open the case, you’ll find a small, rectangular slot on the motherboard, likely measuring around 32mm by 22mm. This is where your existing M.2 NVMe SSD is installed. In your case, it’s a PC SN530 NVMe WDL 256GB. The system’s health shows about 83% remaining life, which is good for now.

Adding a 2.5-inch SSD is quite straightforward. You can choose almost any brand, just make sure it’s compatible with your system. You’ll also need a SATA power cable to connect the new SSD to your power supply. These cables are easy to find online; for example, one available on eBay with part number L24499-001 should work well.

While inspecting the inside of your PC, you might notice a small drive bay near the installed SSD. It’s about the same size, with a screw hole, and sometimes called a mounting point. Some might wonder if this is another M.2 slot. Usually, the ProDesk 400 G6 MT has only one M.2 slot, but the area you see could be a mounting bracket for a 2.5-inch drive or an optional slot depending on the model. The marking “NUT6” you see might refer to a specific component or mounting point, but it’s not necessarily an additional M.2 port.

Don’t worry about asking questions, even if they seem basic. Upgrading your PC is a great way to enhance its performance, and understanding what’s inside can help you do that smoothly.

Remember, if you’re unsure about opening your computer or installing new hardware, consulting a professional or detailed online guides can be very helpful. Happy upgrading!
