If you’re using an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 TWR and have been told to update your Trusted Platform Module (TPM) from version 1.2 to 2.0, you’re on the right track to improving your computer’s security. Updating the TPM is an essential step, especially if you’re planning to use features that require TPM 2.0, such as Windows 11. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to help you do it smoothly.

First, make sure your system is fully updated. Go to your Windows Settings, then click on “Update & Security,” and check for any available updates. Installing the latest updates will help prevent compatibility issues during the TPM update process.

Next, download the latest TPM firmware update from the official HP Support website. Be sure to select the right model—your HP EliteDesk 800 G2 TWR—and check that the firmware update is specifically for TPM 2.0. Download the file to a location you can easily access.

Before proceeding, close all open programs and save your work. It’s also a good idea to back up your important files in case anything unexpected happens.

Now, run the downloaded firmware file as an administrator. Follow the on-screen prompts carefully. The update process will typically take a few minutes, and your PC may restart during the process. Do not turn off your computer or interrupt the update once it begins.

After the update completes, you can verify that your TPM has been successfully upgraded. Type “tpm.msc” into the Windows search box and press Enter. A window will open showing the status of the TPM. If it now indicates version 2.0, your update was successful.

Finally, restart your computer again to ensure all changes are properly applied. With your TPM updated to version 2.0, your system will be better prepared for newer security features and future updates.

Remember, updating hardware components like TPM can sometimes be sensitive. If you’re unsure or run into issues, contacting HP support or a professional technician can give you peace of mind.
