If you want to improve your computer’s memory performance, the best solution is to replace the 4 GB memory chip with a 16 GB one. This change will give you a total of 20 GB of memory, but you’ll notice better performance if you add a matching 16 GB chip in the second slot instead of mixing different sizes.
For your system to run in dual channel mode, which provides faster data transfer speeds, both memory sticks need to be the same size and speed. Since your current setup is 4 GB on one slot and possibly a 16 GB or another size on the other, it’s only running in single channel mode.
To fix this, remove the smaller memory chip and insert a second 16 GB chip exactly like the first. This way, both slots will have matching 16 GB modules, and your computer will run in dual channel mode, boosting overall performance.
