If you’re looking for information on a Softpaq file and it’s not easy to find, here’s a simple trick you can use. Open Notepad on your computer, then copy the link to the driver file into it. Change the file extension from “.exe” to “.html,” then paste that address into your web browser. This sometimes helps you access more details or direct information that isn’t readily available.
For example, I’ve done this specific search for BIOS version F.42. You can check the details here: link to Softpaq F.42. It shows that this version replaces an older one called ‘sp158813’.
If you try to search for the file using that method, you might find it’s not available anymore. This likely means that the F.41 update, which is the previous version, has been removed from the support page. The earlier version listed is F.33, with the Softpaq number sp155350, and it’s shown as the previous update before F.42.
The release notes for this update say that it doesn’t fix bugs but offers enhancements — mainly better security. Since the update is labeled as “Routine,” which is the least urgent type of BIOS update from HP, the choice to install it depends on you. If you’re comfortable with improving security features and want to risk updating your BIOS, you can go ahead. Otherwise, you might choose to wait until a more critical or recommended update becomes available.
