The multiplayer variant, Elden Ring: Nightreign, significantly modifies the original game’s structure. Among the most notable changes are the revamped world and the emphasis on cooperative play. You will no longer craft your own characters; instead, you will select from various predefined classes, each with distinct abilities, stats, and starting equipment. Initially, six classes are accessible, while the Duchess and Revenant classes remain locked. These two offer particularly unique gameplay options in Elden Ring: Nightreign, so unlocking them should be a top priority for optimal team dynamics. Here’s a guide to unlocking both classes.
Unlocking the Duchess Class
To access the Duchess class in Elden Ring: Nightreign, follow a series of steps that are mostly straightforward. Here’s how to go about it:
Step 1: Defeat the first Nightlord boss during the Tricephalos Expedition, which is the default mission you’ll undertake first.
Step 2: Upon defeating the boss, you will receive an Old Pocketwatch item. Interestingly, some players have claimed they received it even after failing to defeat the boss, suggesting you may only need to reach the encounter.
Step 3: Return to the Roundtable Hold and show the Old Pocketwatch to the Priestess to trigger a cutscene.
Step 4: The Priestess will unveil her identity as the Duchess and unlock the class in the character selection menu.

Unlocking the Revenant Class
Once the Duchess class is unlocked, you can move on to unlocking the Revenant class. This step is relatively simple but can easily be overlooked:
Step 1: Head to the Small Jar Bazaar located in the Roundtable Hold.
Step 2: Purchase the Besmirched Frame for 1,500 Murk from the item list.
Step 3: Move to the east wing and seek out a phantom that will appear.
Step 4: Interact with the phantom to be teleported back to the tutorial area, where you will face the Revenant along with three summons.
Step 5: Defeat the Revenant to unlock the class. If you’re unsuccessful, you can keep retrying until you succeed.
