If you’re having trouble with your keyboard not working—in particular when you’re locked out of your Windows screen because you can’t enter your PIN or use facial recognition—here’s a simple solution that might help you get back in.
First, check if the "Sticky Keys" or "Filter Keys" features have been unintentionally turned on. It’s surprisingly easy to activate these features by accident, which can cause the keyboard to behave strangely.
To fix this, look for the Accessibility icon on your screen. This icon looks like a figure with outstretched arms and should be located in the lower right corner of your display. Here’s how to disable those pesky settings:
-
Locate the Accessibility Icon: If your keyboard isn’t working, use your mouse to find the Accessibility icon on the taskbar.
Click on the Icon: Once you’ve found it, click on the icon. This will bring up the accessibility options.
- Disable Sticky Keys and Filter Keys: Look for the options for Sticky Keys and Filter Keys. Make sure to toggle both of them off.
That’s it! Your keyboard should start working again, allowing you to enter your PIN without any issues.
If you don’t see the Accessibility icon and can still use facial recognition, you can access the settings directly:
-
Navigate to Settings: Use your mouse to open the Start menu, then select Settings.
-
Go to Accessibility: Within the Settings menu, click on the Accessibility option.
- Find Keyboard Settings: In the Accessibility menu, locate the Keyboard settings and disable Sticky Keys and Filter Keys from there.
By following these straightforward steps, you should regain control of your keyboard, solving the issue quickly. If you still encounter problems, consider restarting your computer or checking for software updates.
