If your HP EliteBook 6 G1i is acting up, especially with the USB-C ports, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Sometimes, firmware updates or power issues can cause the ports to crash or the laptop not to charge properly. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to reset your laptop and get it back to normal.

First, unplug the power adapter and disconnect any docking stations. If your laptop is still powered enough to turn on, shut it down completely. Once it’s off, press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds. Keep holding until you see the HP logo or the HP Wolf Security logo pop up on the screen. This action performs a hard reset, clearing any lingering issues.

If your laptop’s battery is completely drained—say below 10%—it might turn on briefly, show a low power icon, then shut off again. Sometimes it won’t charge from the dock or charger, which can make it feel like it’s dead. In my case, I initially thought the dock was the problem, since it’s a 100W G6 dock, and I couldn’t get it to charge through the USB-C port.

The key solution was holding the power button for at least 15 seconds during this low-power state. I’d tried only 8 seconds earlier and saw no change. Holding it longer allowed the system to fully reset and, surprisingly, it started charging again and turned back on.

So, if your EliteBook isn’t charging or seems unresponsive, give this a try. Unplug everything, hold down the power button for longer than you think, and then reconnect. This simple reset can often resolve the issue without needing a repair.
