If you’re transferring data from Amazon S3 to an EC2 instance within the same AWS Region, you don’t need to worry about extra charges. This kind of transfer is free of charge, meaning you won’t be billed for the data moving between S3 and just your EC2 instance. You will only be billed for data that leaves your EC2 instance and goes out to the internet, such as when a user downloads your file.
In simpler terms, transferring data inside AWS between S3 and EC2 in the same region doesn’t cost you anything. The charges only apply when data travels from your EC2 machine to users over the internet. So, if you’re hosting files on AWS and your users are downloading them, you’ll be charged for that download, not for internal transfers between your storage and computing resources.
This way, you can keep ongoing costs low by understanding where charges apply and making sure to keep data transfers within AWS regions whenever possible.
