If you’re looking for a simple way to have Siri announce your map directions on your iPhone 14 (or any recent iPhone with the latest updates), here’s a step-by-step guide to help you do it safely, without needing to look at your phone while driving:
First, make sure your iPhone’s software is up to date. Updates often improve existing features and add new ones. You can check for updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
Next, you’ll want to enable Siri and make sure it’s ready to speak your directions. To do this:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Siri & Search.
3. Turn on “Listen for ‘Hey Siri'” if it’s not already activated.
4. Enable “Allow Siri When Locked” to use it hands-free even when your phone is locked.
5. Make sure “Speak Predictions” or “Speak Screen” is turned on if available.
Now, to have Siri speak walking or driving directions:
1. Open the Maps app.
2. Enter your destination as usual.
3. Tap the “Directions” button.
4. Choose your preferred route.
5. Start navigation.
Once navigation begins, Siri can announce each turn. To ensure this works smoothly:
– Adjust your voice settings: In Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice, pick a voice you prefer.
– Enable Announce Notifications: Go to Settings > Notifications > Announce Notifications, and turn it on for Maps or relevant apps.
For even more safety, you can activate “Speak Screen” or “VoiceOver” features:
– For “Speak Screen”:
1. Head to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content.
2. Turn on “Speak Screen.”
3. When driving, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to hear the directions read aloud.
– For “VoiceOver”:
1. Also in Accessibility, turn on “VoiceOver.”
2. This will read out information on the screen, including navigation directions.
Remember, the goal is to stay safe and avoid looking at your phone while driving. Using Siri and these spoken features will help you keep your eyes on the road and navigate safely.
If you want to stop the spoken directions at any time, just say “Stop” or turn off the feature through the Accessibility settings.
