If your computer won’t let you reset it to factory settings because you don’t know the password, don’t worry—there’s a simple way to get around this. One effective method is to do a clean install of Windows 10. This process will wipe everything on your computer and start fresh.
Start by creating a bootable USB drive with Windows 10. You can do this easily by downloading the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website. Just click on the link below to get it:
Once you have the tool downloaded, follow the instructions to make your USB stick bootable with Windows 10. Next, insert the USB into your computer and restart it. Make sure your PC is set to boot from the USB drive—your system’s startup menu or BIOS settings will let you choose the boot device.
When the installation screen appears, proceed until you see the part asking, “Where do you want to install Windows?” Here, you’ll want to delete all existing partitions on your drive. Don’t worry—this will erase everything on the drive. Just select each partition and delete it, leaving the space unallocated.
After that, click “Next,” and Windows 10 will start installing on the unallocated space. Once the installation finishes and you reach the setup screen, don’t enter any information. Instead, press and hold the power button to turn off the computer. You can then give this device to someone else, and they can complete the setup themselves, including creating their own username and password.
This method gets past the password lock and provides a fresh start on your PC without needing to know the original password.
