If you need to reopen a closed AWS account within your organization, there are some important steps and rules you should know. First, it’s important to act quickly if the account was closed recently.
If your account was closed less than 90 days ago, you can contact AWS Support to reopen it. To do this, you should open a support case under the “Account and Billing” category. When doing so, be ready to share details about the account, like the email address associated with it. It’s also helpful to explain your situation clearly and provide any information AWS Support asks for to verify you are the rightful owner.
Keep in mind that if the account has been closed for more than 90 days, it can’t be reopened. Once this time passes, the account is permanently deleted, along with all content and services linked to it. Additionally, you won’t be able to use the same email address to create a new account in the future.
It’s important to understand that you can’t reopen a closed account directly through the AWS Management Console or the AWS CLI. The only way to recover a recently closed account is by reaching out to AWS Support, who have the tools and authority needed to handle your request.
If you’re managing multiple accounts within an AWS Organization, consider exploring newer methods for managing root access. These tools can help keep your accounts secure and make managing your organization easier in the future.
