If you’ve been using Apple’s “Intelligence” feature in the Notes app to help organize your notes, but found it problematic, you’re not alone. Many users have experienced situations where this tool replaces the entire content of their notes with the AI’s response, instead of just assisting in editing. For example, if you used it to find duplicate words, it might detect them well but then erase all the previous information in the note, leaving only the duplicates behind. The worst part is, it often doesn’t delete the note entirely, so you can’t just recover previous content easily.
While talking to Apple support might help, sometimes they aren’t able to provide a clear solution, especially if the problem has been ongoing for months. This issue has been around since early this year, and still, there’s no fix in sight. If you have important notes stored there, and this problem happens, it can be incredibly frustrating — especially after years of work saved in one place.
What you can do to avoid losing important notes:
- Make regular backups of your notes. Use iCloud or another cloud service to keep copies of your information elsewhere.
- Keep a copy of your important notes in a separate folder or app periodically, especially before trying new features.
- Disable the “Intelligence” feature temporarily if you notice it causing issues, so it doesn’t overwrite your notes unexpectedly.
- When editing, consider manual adjustments instead of relying solely on AI tools, at least until a more stable solution is available.
- If your note gets overwritten, check if you have an earlier version in your cloud backup or local storage. Sometimes, older versions can be restored.
This way, you can protect your valuable information from accidental loss while Apple sorts out the ongoing issues with the AI features. Staying cautious and keeping backups are your best bets in preventing future frustrations.
