If you use an iPhone to check your emails, you might want to adjust how your device retrieves new messages. You have two main options: “Push” and “Fetch.” Understanding the difference can help you choose what works best for you.
When you select the “Push” method, your iPhone gets new emails instantly as soon as they arrive on the mail server. This means your messages are pushed directly to your phone right away, giving you the most immediate updates. It’s a great choice if staying up-to-the-minute is important for you.
On the other hand, with the “Fetch” method, your iPhone checks for new emails at regular intervals, such as every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or hourly. This means your phone only checks for new messages during those set times, which can save battery life. However, it might take a little longer for new emails to appear compared to the “Push” setting.
Here’s how you can change these settings on your iPhone:
1. Open the “Settings” app.
2. Scroll down and tap on “Mail” or “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” (depending on your iOS version).
3. Tap on “Accounts.”
4. Select “Fetch New Data.”
5. Choose either “Push” or “Fetch.”
6. If you go with “Fetch,” you can pick how often your phone checks for new emails by tapping “Fetch” and choosing your preferred interval.
7. Repeat these steps for each email account you want to customize.
Keep in mind, not all email providers support “Push.” For example, Gmail, AOL, and Yahoo only offer the “Fetch” option. Providers like iCloud, Exchange, and Outlook support both “Push” and “Fetch.”
Think about what’s more important for you: real-time emails or conserving your phone’s battery. If you need instant updates, go with “Push.” If saving power is your priority, “Fetch” at longer intervals might be better.
