If you’ve received a message about your AWS CloudShell account and are unsure how to stop your data from being deleted, don’t worry—you can handle this step-by-step. The key is to launch CloudShell in the specified AWS region to prevent the removal of your home directory and data.
Here’s what you should do:
First, check if your account is listed under the “Affected Resources” tab in your AWS Health Dashboard. This list will show which users are at risk of losing their CloudShell data because they haven’t used CloudShell in over 110 days in the specified region, which is ap-southeast-2.
To prevent the deletion, you need to launch AWS CloudShell in that ap-southeast-2 region. You can do this by going to the AWS Management Console, then opening CloudShell. Request to start a session in the ap-southeast-2 region, which is the Asia Pacific (Sydney) region.
Once you’re there, launching CloudShell in this region will update your activity and reset the inactivity timer. This simple step tells AWS that you are still actively using your CloudShell environment, so your data won’t be deleted when the scheduled date arrives.
If everything is unclear, or if you encounter any issues, you can check the official AWS documentation on persistent storage in CloudShell for more guidance. Additionally, for further support or questions, reaching out to AWS Premium Support is recommended.
Remember, it’s important to regularly use CloudShell in the region where your data is stored, especially if you’re not using it often. This way, your files and settings stay safe, and you avoid the risk of losing important work.
Good luck! If you follow these steps, your CloudShell environment should be safe from deletion.
