If you’re looking to update the BIOS on your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 USDT from 2013 to the latest version (v02.71), here’s a simple way to do it manually, especially if the usual software tools aren’t working.
First, since the SoftPaq utility (sp80151.exe) isn’t launching properly—whether you’re on Linux Mint or even Windows 10—it’s best to use a manual update method. This involves preparing a bootable USB drive and placing the BIOS update files on it.
Start by extracting the files from the SoftPaq archive. Within the extracted folders, you’ll find a file called L01_0271.BIN in the DOS Flash folder. This is the BIOS file you need.
Next, create a folder structure on your USB drive that looks like this:
USB-Drive:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New\L01_0271.BIN
Make sure your USB drive is formatted as FAT32. Place the BIOS file in the “New” folder as shown, with all other folders untouched.
Now, to perform the update, restart your computer and access the BIOS menu by pressing F10 during startup. Use the “Flash System ROM” option. When prompted, insert your prepared USB drive.
Select the BIOS update file from the menu when asked. The update process should start and may take a few minutes. Do not turn off your PC during this process.
This manual method is often more reliable if the utility-based update refuses to run or fails. You don’t need any other files from the extracted folders—the BIOS update file (L01_0271.BIN) is all you need.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully update your BIOS without any extra software tools. Always remember to carefully follow on-screen instructions during the BIOS update to avoid any issues.
