If you’re tired of seeing small, ongoing charges on your AWS bill for services you don’t remember using, you’re not alone. Many users face confusing charges even when they think they are not actively using any resources. Here’s a simple step-by-step way to find out what’s costing you and how to stop those unwanted charges.
Start by logging into your AWS Management Console. Use the Cost Explorer tool to see exactly which services are adding up on your bill. Make sure to check all regions where you might have resources running, as sometimes they can be in parts of AWS you don’t usually look at. Look out for resources like unattached EBS volumes, old snapshots, Elastic IP addresses, or CloudWatch Logs. These often continue to charge money even when they’re not actively being used.
If you notice charges from specific services, here’s what to do:
– For AWS Amplify, check the Amplify console for any deployed applications.
– For DataPipeline, even if you get a 404 error, try accessing it through the main AWS console menu.
– For other services you can’t immediately find, contact AWS Support. They can help identify and shut down unused resources.
To cut your monthly charges down to just the essentials—like Route 53 and S3—go through each region carefully:
– Delete or shut down any resources you no longer need.
– Pay extra attention to services that keep charging even when they’re “stopped,” like EC2 instances.
– If you’re unable to find or access certain resources, AWS Support is there to help at no extra cost.
If you find the AWS interface confusing or difficult to navigate, you have two options:
– Contact AWS Support for help in identifying and removing unwanted resources.
– Or, consider closing your current account and creating a new one that only includes the services you really need, such as Route 53 and S3.
Remember, simply stopping or ignoring services won’t stop the charges. You must actively delete or shut down resources you no longer need to prevent further costs.
This approach will help you take control of your AWS bills and stop charges for unused resources.
