Having trouble getting Siri to play a specific song? If Siri responds with, “Looks like Spotify doesn’t have a clean version of that,” and refuses to play the track, you’re not alone. This is a common issue, especially when using Spotify and trying to play songs with explicit versions.
The good news is, if you prefer listening to explicit tracks, you can easily fix this. Here’s how:
First, check your account settings on Spotify. Make sure your profile isn’t set to only show clean or censored versions of songs. To do this, log into Spotify on your computer or app, go to your account settings, and look for the “Explicit Content” toggle. Ensure that it’s turned on if you want to access the full, unfiltered versions of songs.
Next, check your device’s content restrictions. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If these are turned on, tap on “Content Restrictions,” then “Music, Podcasts & News.” Make sure the setting for “Explicit Language” is set to “Allow” or “Allow All.”
Additionally, when you ask Siri to play a song, specify that you want the explicit version. For example, say, “Play [song name] by [artist], explicit version.” Sometimes, giving more details helps Siri find the correct track.
If these steps don’t work, try disconnecting and reconnecting your Spotify account within your device’s music settings. Go to Settings > Music > Spotify, and sign out. Then, sign back in and test again.
One more tip: if you’re trying to listen to a song that’s not available in Spotify’s catalog, or if the specific version isn’t available, Siri might fall back on the clean version or refuse to play. In that case, you might want to check if the song is available in your Apple Music library, where your preferences for explicit content are usually more flexible.
By adjusting your account and device settings, and being specific when asking Siri, you should be able to hear the version of the song you prefer.
