Setting Up Siri to Use Your Preferred Voice: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re a Siri user and want to customize your experience by using a specific voice, you might have encountered some issues when using Siri’s automation features. If you’ve selected the American Voice 5 but have noticed that Siri ignores it when running Shortcut Automations—defaulting back to the system voice—don’t worry! Here’s a practical guide to help you set up and troubleshoot Siri for optimal performance.
Creating Your Siri Shortcuts
-
Download the U.S. American Siri Voice 2: Go to the settings and make sure you have the correct voice downloaded.

Set Voice 2 as the Default: After downloading, navigate to the settings and select Voice 2 as your default Siri voice.
-
Create a Shortcut for When Your Phone Is Charging:
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- Set up an automation that triggers when your phone is connected to power.
- Choose “Speak Text” as your action and enter the phrase: "Thanks for the recharge".
- Make sure to set the Speak Text voice to Voice 2.
-
Create a Shortcut for When Your Phone Is Disconnected from Power:
- Again, use the Shortcuts app for this automation.
- This time, choose the trigger for when your phone is disconnected from a power source.
- Set the action to “Speak Text” and use the phrase: "Thanks again for the recharge".
- Ensure the Speak Text voice is set to Voice 2.
-
Test Your Automations: Connect your phone to the charger and then disconnect it. Siri should use the U.S. American Voice 2 to say the text you entered.
- Reboot Test: Turn off your phone, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. After waiting another 60 seconds, repeat the test. Siri should still use the U.S. American Voice 2.
Troubleshooting Siri Voice Issues
If you find that Siri is not using the voice you set after enabling Apple Intelligence, follow these steps to reproduce the issue and troubleshoot:
-
Enable Apple Intelligence: Go to your settings and enable this feature.
-
Run Your Charging Test Again: Connect and disconnect your phone from the charger. Initially, Siri should still use Voice 2.
-
Reboot Again: Turn off your phone again for 30 seconds, and follow the same steps to see if the problem persists.
-
Run the Charging Test Once More: After repeating these steps, you might notice Siri now defaults to a system voice instead of the U.S. American Voice 2.
-
Check Your Voice Options in Shortcuts: You’ll find that the Voice 2 option may disappear from your Speak Text settings, leaving you with only system voice options.
-
Disable Apple Intelligence: If you’re still facing issues:
- Turn off Apple Intelligence in your settings.
- Retry the charging test. Siri will likely still ignore Voice 2.
- Final Reboot Test: Turn your phone off, wait, and then turn it back on. After testing the automation again, Siri should now be back to speaking with U.S. American Voice 2.
By following these straightforward steps, you should be able to manage your voice settings effectively and troubleshoot any issues that arise with Siri. Enjoy your personalized Siri experience!
